Who Needs Inspiration After a Long Tax Season?
There are some times at work where it is hard to get through the day. I watch the clock. I drink too much caffeine. My mood isn’t the best. If you just wrapped up tax season, you may know what I am talking about.
When I have days like that, I look for some inspiration to turn things around. Often times, I turn to my e-mail inbox where I typically have enough reading material, in the form of blog subscriptions and newsletters, to keep me busy for the next month. One of my favorite go-to sources for inspiration is Seth Godin. His words of wisdom are frequently all I need to snap out of my funk.

Years ago, early on in my career at Andersen, I participated in a really interesting team building exercise. Our team was presented with a desert survival situation. After crashing in the desert, we were given a list of 15 things that were salvaged from the wreck and asked to rank these items according to their importance for our survival. First, we were asked to individually rank these items in order of their importance for our survival. Then, we were asked to get together as a team and come up with a new set of rankings based on consensus. The objective was to have all team members agree, or at a minimum, be willing to support the team decision.
