5 Tools to Help the Stressed Tax Professional

It’s that time of year again. Corporate tax departments are abuzz. Tax season is in full swing, and tax professionals are scurrying to get everything done while working long hours. Excel spreadsheets are being re-worked. Work papers and documentation are gone over with a fine tooth comb. Entire forests are being destroyed, as reams of paper capture tax return after tax return. There aren’t enough hours in the day to get all of the work done. Stress is at an all-time high.

The bad news is I can’t make all of that work disappear. The good news is I have come across a few applications/tools that may be able to help you work more efficiently, or at a minimum, help reduce some of that stress.

Top 10 Ways to Get Cash for your Tax Department Projects!

This blog post is also available in a recent ACT Newsletter…but, I thought I’d share here in case our readers don’t all subscribe to the ACT Newsletter.

I wasn’t able to attend the recent Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Global User Conference at the Fontainebleau in Miami. However I did get to see some hilarious (or completely sad, but true) things our kids might be saying about an illustrious career in tax in a video they rolled out during their opening session. If you missed it, check it out here.  It just serves to prove the point that unless tax professionals can get and maintain qualified staff, improve processes and leverage technology, they may continue to “have a life” similar to the one these kids are describing.

Corptax Conference Day Three Update

Corptax Conference Day Three Update

Yesterday concluded Day 3 of the Corptax User’s Conference in San Antonio. While attendees were starting to slow down a little, there was no shortage of good sessions to attend. Kelley and I have had a few favorites during the conference, including a Tax Process Improvement Calendar session presented by John Fiore and Anne Giffels from Ryan alongside their clients from Abott Laboratories and Bausch and Lomb. Another really great session, Tax Examination Hot Topics, presented by Victoria Sherlock from KPMG, kicked off the morning yesterday. Look for more blog posts from Kelley and me in coming weeks on things we have learned here.
