Corptax Conference Day One Update

Corptax Conference Day One Update

Twelve hundred attendees from 350 companies arrived in San Antonio for yesterday’s kickoff of the Corptax User’s Conference. In the opening session, David Shea, CEO at CorpTax, challenged the audience to think about how to do things differently this week. He emphasized the fact that this week is all about users helping users. The highlight of Shea’s opening remarks came when he announced an agreement had been reached for Corporation Service Company, a leading global business and financial solutions provider, to acquire CorpTax and Tax Compliance, Inc. (TCI). He quelled everyone’s fears by assuring them that the vision and direction for the products would not change. They will continue to drive improvements. The acquisition is expected to close in the next 30-90 days.

Following the opening session, the remainder of the day was filled with informative sessions covering compliance, provision processing, international and other tax-related topics. Kelley and I attended a variety of sessions, including a case study discussing successful implementations with Commerce Insurance Group and Nike and Financial Close Best Practices, where Prudential talked about their ability to truly use Corptax as a real GL subledger. As my colleague, Kelley Lear, put it, this will truly be a paradigm shift for tax! One thing was evident no matter where we went yesterday…..Corptax has their users involved, sharing ideas and helping them improve the products. It was a great thing to see.

The day wrapped up with a Monday night football event on big screens and lots of good football fare. Everyone had a great time relaxing, hanging out and watching the game.

Below is a short video, Kelley and I put together at the end of day one:

We will continue to post video updates and blogs the rest of the week from the conference. You can also follow conference happenings on Twitter using hashtag #corptax11. Stay tuned!
